About Me

A little more context beyond the CV.

Relocated to Sydney#

After five years in Amsterdam and a year on the road, I discovered that I burn easily and don't particularly enjoy surfing. Australia therefore felt like the right place to start the next chapter.

Career Break#

Travel taught me a lot about B2B SaaS—

-only joking.

I left Surfly to spend a year travelling with my partner through South America and Asia. It was a chance to explore the world, reset after a busy few years and work out what I want to do next.

Thinking beyond the deal as Lead SE#

My role increasingly moved beyond individual deals into product strategy, technical enablement and shaping what we built based on what I was seeing in the market.

Really got into the tech at Surfly#

I joined to own the technical side of complex sales: discovery, solution design, demonstrations, and evaluations. Deals often required creativity and invention when the obvious answer didn’t exist. The complexity of the product pushed me to deepen my technical skills considerably.

Learned how to make technology relevant at 24Sessions#

This was where I properly learned Solutions Engineering. I worked alongside talented AEs, learned from experienced people around me and developed the ability to understand customer problems and turn a configurable product into something specific enough to solve those problems and win the deal.

Moved to Amsterdam#

I moved from London to Amsterdam for work and ended up staying for five years. I got comfortable riding a bike with a basket and listening to the brutally unfiltered opinions of my Dutch colleagues.

Learned how to stay calm when things break at Yobota#

A fintech role supporting live banking systems taught me how to investigate technical problems properly, stay calm when things break and communicate clearly when the stakes are high. SLAs were tight and I had never received so many calls in the middle of the night.

Learned I belonged in customer-facing technology at MRI Software#

My first proper technical SaaS role. I worked with enterprise software customers, eventually leading early-life support for new implementations and discovering that I enjoyed working with customers and technology together more than either in isolation.

Started my SaaS career in London#

The beginning of the career. I spent an unreasonable amount of money on trains.

Temp work and backpacking#

I spent a year figuring out what I actually wanted to do. I worked in IT support, kitchens, public relations and at an American summer camp between bouts of backpacking.

All were useful in their own way but none became the career.

Graduated from Loughborough University#

BA English Language · 2:1

My dissertation on propaganda won a regional Best Dissertation award and left me with a lasting interest in how the way information is presented can change what people believe.

Awkward teen phase best forgotten#

Several disastrous parents’ evenings offered some preliminary insight into the challenges of stakeholder management.

Was born#

Strong start. Limited technical-sales experience.
